licensing

We will be detailing some aspects of our software listening and providing a short FAQ.

Use on 2 computers

Broadly speaking, we have tried to draft our EULA to be flexible for you. We don't want our licence to get in the way of you working and coming up with great ideas.

So, if you have 2 computers, you can install and use the software on both of them (not simultaneous use, though!).

With the relevant licence you can install and use both Mac and Windows versions of the software, too, including if your computers are dual boot Win/Mac systems.

Commercial vs Non-Commercial use

Our licence wording (extract from EULA, italics just to aid understanding) is as follows. You have the right to:

  • for Non-Commercial Use Licences: notwithstanding other sections of this licence and excepting any and all use by, for or within a business use the Software for the creation of your own content or ideas where the purpose is not to derive or to try to derive compensation for such content or ideas.
  • for Commercial Use Licences: notwithstanding other sections of this licence use the Software as for Non-Commercial Use and in addition, but not limited to : a) use the Software for the creation of content or ideas where you derive or try to derive compensation from those; b) use the Software for the creation of content for others for compensation, and c) use the Software within, for or by a business.

Question: If I buy a non-commercial licence, can I use the software to come up with content/ideas I put into other works (e.g. tracks) and then sell a few of those works (e.g. tracks) to my friends (e.g. small CD run for etc.)?

Answer: If you are doing it as a non-commercial hobby, e.g. making music for fun, then yes (providing you are not doing this through a company!). The key wording here is "... where the purpose is not to derive or to try to derive compensation...".

If, on the other hand, you are making tracks and/or pressing CDs with the intention of trying to sell them to a wider audience, then you need to buy the commercial licence. Sure, there is a little bit of grey area in here, but you will know what you are wanting/trying to do, so trust your conscience (and we trust you to do that). Certainly if you are making more money from tracks/ideas you have created with our tools than the cost of the non-commerical licence, then you should be purchasing a commercial licence.
