  • 30 day Windows Desktop trial software: Our Desktop Windows trial software products are full save versions: after 30 days you are not licenced to save with the software unless you first purchase the relevant Licence to unlock it.

  • Performance Licences: With respect to use of our software for installations, please check the terms of the relevant EULA which, for commercial use, require you to purchase an additional, separate license.
  • Desktop Versions and Updates: Customers who purchase from our webstore a License for Version "n" (where n is a number) of a Desktop Software will be entitled to use for free (and be licensed for) any updates we make available for download via our website for that version of the software (i.e. V2.x updates for the V2 version).

Free updates, not free "upgrades"

Of course we do free "updates" (e.g V3.1, 3.2 etc.), but we do not do free "upgrades" (e.g. V3 to V4 [Major Versions]).

That's because we operate a "Fullgrade" model which means all our Major Version apps and tools are already priced as though they were upgrades. If you want a new, Major Version with its new features and content, you just need to buy it! See the "Fullgrade" FAQ entry, below.

Do I need to get the new version?

Well, that is up to you and will be down to whether or not you want or need any features/content in it. If you do not think the feature set for a particular new Major Version is strong enough and you don't want or need it, you don't have to get it - you can skip it. There is no obligation for you to buy the new version and, remember, you can continue using the version you have purchased for as long as you like (and, of course, that it runs on any new OS you choose to install).

P.S. Don't forget, if you purchase your app near the end of the previous major version cycle then it is still great value as, at an upgrade price, you get the benefit of all the improvements that we packed in during that cycle (be they features, fixes or stability)!

What about OS and 3rd party library support?

Toolchains are always changing, and it can take a lot of time to modify, test and update software to support new versions of an OS or new 3rd party libraries (e.g. AudioBus, Retronyms etc.). That is why during a major product cycle we try hard to ensure our software works correctly with what is available at the time and what we say it works with.

As the years go by, though, older versions of our software may not work correctly with newer 3rd party services or a newer OS that you may choose to upgrade to (remember, it is entirely YOUR CHOICE to do that). That attrition is just the way the appverse works. It is a tough choice, but we simply do not have the bandwidth to continuously update old apps that may have cost just a few dollars AND to keep our current apps moving forwards for customers who want new things (the latter wins out with our Fullgrade model).

Still think we should provide free upgrades?

Well, if you are someone who wants new features/content etc. then they have to be funded somehow, by someone: sorry!

We are not Venture Capital funded and we are just 2 guys who massively underpay ourselves, we operate in a small market niche and we don't collect your data and treat you as the product.

It may be hard to understand, but developing complex apps like ours (and updating them) is a very, very time consuming activity - we are like master craftsmen with years of experience who like to make very powerful, high quality generative tools.

If we cannot make money to keep it all going (somehow), then ultimately we don't eat. We know that you expect to be able to eat for the work you do, and we know that you are a nice person and you would want us to eat, too, for the work we do. And, remember, what we get for new versions of our powerful, niche apps amounts to just a couple of cups of coffee for all the work we put into them (which is a lot).

Consider: Even with all the money Apple make and have they choose not to give away free iPhones every year to people who have bought one in the past - instead they make a return on their ongoing efforts by charging for new models. We are no different in that we have to charge for new versions (but we don't of course make any where near their kind of money :)).

We really can assure you we do put an enormous amount of blood, sweat and tears into our apps and we do the very, very, very best we can for both our existing customers and future customers and those who want to continue a journey with us.

We have always strived to ensure our apps are great value through sensible, affordable Major Version pricing.

A few years ago App Stores came along and they made purchasing and updating easy and convenient for our customers. It was a no brainer, therefore, for us to embrace where we could the different "App Stores", and today most of our sales are via them. However, from a developer perspective App Stores suffer from two big shortcomings:

  1. App Stores do NOT support an "upgrade" model where customers can get a discounted price when going from one App Major Version to another App Major Version e.g. App V1 to App V2.
  2. App Stores do not let app developers know who has purchased their apps so they have no ability cross-reference or provide special offers to those customers.

The "Fullgrade" model

In order to address the above two issues for the benefit if those of you who enjoy our products, in 2012 we adopted a simple product lifecycle model to help justify expending the effort to develop new Major Versions of our mobile and desktop products. It means there are still free updates, but no free upgrades (see the FAQ entry above).

Our default position is that we aim to release a new Major Version of our core apps [mobile and desktop] roughly every year or so and charge for that version as a new product - but at an upgrade price. In this model there is no special reduced "upgrade" pricing from Major Version to Major Version - all pricing is always at upgrade prices! We call this the "Fullgrade" model.

Don't forget, if you purchase your app near the end of the previous major version cycle then it is still great value as, at an upgrade price, you get the benefit of all the improvements that we packed in during that cycle (be they features, fixes or stability)! And, of course, if you do not think the feature set for a particular new Major Version is strong enough, you don't have to get it - you can skip it: it is entirely up to you (unless, of course, you wish to continue using it but a new OS you choose to install does not support the version you have).

What it all means:

  1. Software Pricing:
    As there are no Major Version to Major Version "upgrades" the prices of Major Version products will be less than they would otherwise have been had we been able to offer special upgrade pricing. Note: Customers do not lose the benefit of loyalty as they get the new product version at, in effect, the previous upgrade price. We also hope that the lower initial price will encourage new users into the fold.
  2. Perpetual Licensing:
    Customers can continue to use their licenced Major Version products for as long as they want to (this is called perpetual licensing) or as long as they are OS supported.
  3. Updates:
    Updates to that Major Version during the product cycle will continue to be free, as now and as expected. However, once the new Major Version is released it is likely there will be no further updates to the older Major Version.
  4. Product Keys for IM Webstore Desktop Software purchases:
    • Desktop Mixtikl 2 - 6; Mixtikl 7:
      • Product Keys for Mixtikl 2 onwards will work fine in the RELEVANT Mixtikl products right up to Mixtikl 6. Note: If you purchased a Mixtikl 2-4 Full Product this included a Product Key suitable for both Desktop Standalone and Desktop Audio Plugins from our website.
      • Mixtikl 7 requires a new Product Key, but it is the same key for both Desktop Standalone and Audio Plugin.
    • Desktop Noatikl 2; Noatikl 3:
      • Product Keys for Noatikl 2 Desktop Standalone and Desktop Audio Plugins are different and will work fine in the RELEVANT Noatikl 2 products.
      • Noatikl 3 requires a new Product Key, but it is the same key for both Desktop Standalone and Audio Plugin.
  5. It's your call!:
    Finally, if you do not think the feature set for a particular new Major Version is strong enough, you don't have to get it - you can skip it: it is entirely up to you (unless, of course, you wish to continue using it but a new OS you choose to install does not support the version you have). Doing things this way very much keeps us on our toes, and there is no fig leaf to hide behind. And, as we said above, if you purchase your app near the end of the previous major version cycle then it is still great value as, at an upgrade price, you get the benefit of all the improvements that we packed in during that cycle (be they features, fixes or stability)!

Rather naturally we have especial love our long term fans who have stayed with us version-to-version, believed in us and helped us to keep going when times are tough (which is most of the time) - but whether or not you get the new version is up to you!

The only way to purchase our iOS or Mac apps are at the relevant Apple App Store. Apple do not let us know our customers, so we have no way of linking the purchases together to allow that. So, what we do instead is make sure that all of our App versions are always great value!

You should get email confirmation of your purchase soon after purchasing, and by that we means seconds, minutes or possibly (rarely) a few hours - and not days (but we have on only 2 occasions in the last 2 years bizarrely seen this kind of delay for a Paypal purchase!). In the email(s) will be the relevant Product Key(s).

If for some reason you do not receive your email, or the email is missing the Product Key PLEASE do contact us so we can sort it out for you. Very occasionally BlueSnap [formerly called Plimus] (our store partner) has had problems sending out the emails, so if you have got a problem, we want to assure you that we will sort it out for you as soon as we can!
