Installing & Transferring Paks, Tiklpaks and Files

It is easy to transfer/copy audio, MIDI, mix and other files to and from your iPhone/iPad/iPod touch or Android device. For iOS devices we generally recommend using the App File Sharing feature in iTunes, but you can also use older Mixtikl File Share/Copy via Local Network to copy mix files.

Transfering Zips: If you want to move zip files to your iPhone/iPad/iPod touch or Android device, then you will need to be using Mixtikl (Full).

A) iOS: Using iTunes Apps File Sharing (recommended)

Note: Refer also to Apple's docs on iTunes Apps File Sharing

Copy/Transfer TO iPhone/iPad/iPod touch [Mixtikl Full only]

e.g. mixes, audio loops, MIDI files etc.

  1. Connect your iPad (iOS 3.2 or later) or iPhone / iPod touch (iOS 4.0 or later) to iTunes.
  2. Then, in iTunes under DEVICES (left hand list) select your iPhone / iPad / iPod touch, and under the iTunes Apps tab look at the bottom of the screen in the File Sharing area (see: iTunes Apps File Sharing).
  3. Select Mixtikl (Full)) and you will see Mixtikl Documents in the right hand list. Either press the "Add..." button at the very bottom to add your audio, MIDI, mix or zip files to this folder (zip files transfer is only supported with Mixtikl (Full)), or simply drag them onto this folder (e.g. from Finder on the Mac or Explorer on Windows).
  4. Sync (copies files FROM mixtikl to iTunes, and TO mixtikl from iTunes)
  5. Then, in Mixtikl (Full) on your iPhone / iPad / iPod touch, select Menu > Import > Files via iTunes (Figure 1). You will be asked if you want to copy your files over. Tap the OK button and you will see a message saying they have been copied (and how many). These files are copied to the User_Content pak folder.
    • Note: Once content (e.g. a mix file) is in the User Content folder on your iDevice, you cannot then move it from there to another pak, so your User Content folder may get a bit busy. However, you can delete files on iDevice using Menu > Tidy.
    • Note: Mix files will load just fine from the User Content folder as the underlying pak info is saved to the mix file.
  6. Then, in the mixer screen, select a content cell, select the Content button in the Content Cell Menu and select the User Content pak and you will then see your files. Simply select one to add to your mix!

Copy/Transfer FROM iPhone/iPad/iPod touch to Desktop computer

  1. Connect and sync your iPad (iOS 3.2 or later) or iPhone / iPod touch (iOS 4.0 or later) to iTunes.
  2. Then, in iTunes under DEVICES (left hand list) select your iPhone / iPad / iPod touch, and under the iTunes Apps tab look at the bottom of the screen in the File Sharing area (see: iTunes Apps File Sharing).
  3. Select Mixtikl or Mixtikl Free and you will see Mixtikl Documents in the right hand list.
  4. Select the intermorphic folder (which includes all your audio/MIDI recordings and saved mixes) and then either press the "Save to..." button at the very bottom or drag the folder to where you want it to go.

B) Android: Using Windows Explorer or Mac Finder

Copy/Transfer TO/FROM Android device [Mixtikl Full only]

e.g. mixes, audio loops, MIDI files etc.

  1. Connect your Android device to your PC or Mac. It will appear in Explorer or Finder as a USB device.
  2. With Explorer or Finder look for a top level directory on the device called "intermorphic". Drill down on that directory and you will find the following:
    • [device]intermorphic/mixtikl/paks
    • [device]intermorphic/mixtikl/recordings
    • [device]intermorphic/mixtikl/paks/User_Content
Note: the recordings directory is where audio and MIDI recordings get saved to, and the User_Content directory is where your mixes are saved to. If you create your own zipped paks you can put them in the paks folder above, or the tiklpaks folder below.
  3. Simply copy your mixes and recordings to/from these folders. If you want to access the same mixes and recordings in Mixtikl for Desktop, put them in the corresponding folders in Mixtikl for Desktop.
    • Note: Once content (e.g. a mix file) is in the User_Content folder on your iDevice, you cannot then move it from there to another pak, so your User_Content folder may get a bit busy. However, you can delete files on iDevice using Menu > Tidy.
    • Note: Mix files will load just fine from the User_Content folder as the underlying pak info is saved to the mix file.
  4. Optional: If you want to copy Desktop Intermorphic Tiklpaks from your PC to your device, then create the following directory and copy them into that (see where they are installed on Desktop):
    • [device]intermorphic/mixtikl/tiklpaks
  5. Then, in the mixer screen, select a content cell, select the Content button in the Content Cell Menu and select the User Content pak and you will then see your files. Simply select one to add to your mix!
    • Note:You may need to restart Mixtikl for it to be able to find any new content copied in.
    • Note: Tiklpak and Pak zip files appear also in the Pak list (See Figure 4 "Installed Pak List")

C) File Sharing over a Local Network (Deprecated)

Note: Only for sharing .mixtikl mix files, and then only supported by Mixtikl (Full), but if you must use this method to transfer TO a PC/MAC, then use a web browser for that (under Import below)

  1. Either locate the mix in in the Pak folder below (the tilde [~] in the pathname is a shortcut for your user account name):
    • Macs (Leopard):
      ~/Documents/intermorphic/mixtikl/paks/User_Content
    • Macs (Lion):
      ~/Library/Mixtikl/intermorphic/mixtikl/paks/User_Content

    • Windows:
      My Documents\intermorphic\mixtikl\paks\User_Content
  2. For the mix files you want to put on your device (note Mixtikl (Full) is required for transfer of files):
    • Mobile device
Use the Export and Import menu options in Mixtikl and follow the on screen instructions:
      • EXPORT
        • To share mix files across your local network between 2 copies of Mixtikl (e.g. iDevice > Mac/PC or Mac/PC > iDevice) then from the Mixtikl you want to share from select Menu > Export > Files via Local Network.
        • Wait until you see an http:// address displayed (Figure 2).
        • On the version of Mixtikl you want to Copy to, select Mixtikl > Menu > Import > Files via Local Network.
      • IMPORT
        • To copy mix files across your local network from one copy of Mixtikl to another (e.g. iDevice > Mac/PC or Mac/PC > iDevice) then first set up the Mixtikl that is to share, as above.
        • Then from the version you want to copy to select Menu > Import > Files via Local Network.
        • Wait until you see the sharing Mixtikl in the top box, and select the mix files you want to copy in the bottom list box. All files of the following type under the intermorphic/mixtikl/ folder or subfolders will be displayed in this list but only .mixtikl files can be copied: .zip, .wav, .noatikl, .partikl, .mixtikl. Also note that spaces in file names are not allowed at present.
        • Save the file when asked; it will get saved to the relevant folder (i.e. the User_Content folder).
        • Web Browser: You can also copy the files TO your desktop Win/Mac version using a browser and the http:// address displayed above - follow the instructions on screen of the device sharing the Mixtikl content.
    • Windows Mobile (Pocket PC/Smartphone)
Use Windows Explorer to copy (or move) your Tiklpaks or Paks from 1) above to the relevant folder on your device:
      My Documents\intermorphic\mixtikl\tiklpaks
      My Documents\intermorphic\mixtikl\paks
      or
      <Storage card name>\intermorphic\mixtikl\tiklpaks
      <Storage card name>\intermorphic\mixtikl\paks

Tiklpak Desktop Install

Using Mixtikl Paks and Tiklpaks is easy! They need to be installed to the right place, though.

The add-on Intermorphic Tiklpaks for Desktop Mixtikl or Noatikl come with an installer that makes sure they are installed to the correct place on your computer.

  1. Purchase a licence for the required Tiklpak Collection.
  2. From the link in the email you get sent, download the relevant Collection (a zip file - e.g. mixtikl_tiklpaks_Collection_1_desktop.zip) to your computer.
  3. Unzip the file e.g. mixtikl_tiklpaks_Collection_1_desktop.zip to get to the zip files of the Mac and Windows Tiklpak installers.
  4. Unzip the relevant file, e.g. mixtikl_tiklpaks_Collection_1_mac.zip for the Mac mac installer, or e.g. mixtikl_tiklpaks_Collection_1_win.zip for the Windows installer.
  5. Run the installer, which will install the Tiklpak(s) to the following folders (the tilde [~] in the pathname is a shortcut for your user account name) e.g.:

      Mixtikl

    • Macs :
      <drive>:Library/Application Support/intermorphic/mixtikl/tiklpaks
Note, this is NOT under a user directory, it is a top level directory.
      • IMPORTANT NOTE:
Mixtikl 5.X + for Mac requires installed Tiklpaks to be in the directory below. Simply move them from above to this directory (the tilde [~] in the pathname is a shortcut for your user account name):
        <drive>:~/Library/Mixtikl/intermorphic/mixtikl/tiklpaks
    • Windows XP:
      <drive>:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\intermorphic\mixtikl\tiklpaks
    • Windows 7 (even though the installer says it installs under e.g. \Program Files (x86)\intermorphic\mixtikl):
      <drive>:\ProgramData\intermorphic\mixtikl\tiklpaks

      Noatikl

    • Macs:
      <drive>:Library/Application Support/intermorphic/noatikl/templates
Note: this is NOT found under ~/Library/ where the tilde (~) in the pathname is a shortcut for your user account name
    • Windows XP:
      <drive>:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\intermorphic\noatikl\templates
    • Windows 7:
      <drive>:\ProgramData\intermorphic\noatikl\templates

  6. You are done! Start the product and your Tiklpaks will be available for you to use.
