Middleschoolfrown and Jimmy Magee
I first purchased Mixtikl for my iPod touch round about Feb 2010 (left a five star review on Appstore at the time) and then for the PC in March 2010, however due to my PC crashing and not having funds for a new one, mainly used Mixtikl on my touch, then on my iPhone following a phone upgrade in May 2011. I started uploading mixes featuring Mixtikl to YouTube and MySpace and as i got more flexible and confident with Mixtikl i started to use spoken word through the iphone mic.
"She Waits for Someone" was born in Mixtikl, in Ambient 100c but used a range of Paks - Ambient 100c, Dronemaker1, Cinematic 078a, ReichianTechno 120c, BellsMetalsArps, GenElements1, GenMix1, GenMix7 and my own voice through the iphone mic with delay effect. I uploaded the track to Soundcloud ("She Waits for Someone" on Soundcloud) and the next day played it to Gerry Mitchell (aka Jimmy Magee) in work. Gerry loved the feel of the track and asked me to make it downloadable in Soundcloud for him to work with it. That night he went home, wrote lyrics and added acoustic guitar and vocal to She Waits, via his iphone mic. He then tied both up in studio.MX by app developers Soundtrends.
We entered the song in the Glasgow City of Music competition and amazingly, we beat over fifty bands/ songwriters to win. We are due to record the song shortly and already have created a little buzz with Ministry of Sound's Rebecca Vasmant offering to remix the track. Also Martin and James offering to come into the studio with us when they are home from Berlin near xmas.
Quite an amazing outcome for two unsigned artists, using iphones, apps and their love of music to collaborate on a song which was made without the two of us even being in the same building. The winning collabaration will hopefully be released once we get into the studio and find ourselves a record label!
