How to Make Paks

Making Paks (zipped up content collections for Mixtikl) is much easier that it may at first seem. If you either know how to make samples / loops, or how to work with them, the you know enough to be able to make Paks. And if you don't know that, then you can still contribute to the community by meta-tagging files.

Don't forget, you can also use your own loops and samples without first creating a Pak. However, if you want to have portable content (i.e. to use on your device and desktop), you will need to make a Pak

What you put into a Mixtikl Pak depends on what you are wanting to do, and whether you want your Pak to show in the list of Paks. In general:

Construction Kits

  • These Paks include integrated collections of samples (e.g. "construction kits") that you want to mix together (e.g. a song chorus). The samples in these Pak will have a common root and tempo. This kind of Pak is easy to work with in the Mixer app.
  • We recommend you display them in the Pak list
  • Pros: Users do not need to go outside the Pak collection
  • Cons: Can take a bit longer to prepare the Pak (so all at same tempo and root)

Separates

  • These Paks contain general sample/loop resources (e.g. "separates") that you want to add into any mix (from the content list). You may want these samples to be located in e.g. a Samples directory, e.g. "paks/samples/Bass Loops 1" etc. but you do not want them to display in the Pak list, where they will take up valuable space.
  • We recommend you hide them from the Pak list
  • Pros: Easier for content browsing (e.g. where lots of samples); generally easier to prepare
  • Cons: Users need to mix content together from other such Paks
